Developmental Editorial Feedback and Manuscript Consultation

Are you working on a manuscript and beginning to feel like you’re too close to parse through its strengths and weaknesses? Are you looking for holistic editorial feedback on plot and character development, voice, timing, and structure? Are you a poet looking for conversation around an emerging or lingering project?

Having worked in editorial departments at a Big 5 publisher, a national print magazine, and a renowned online journal, I bring a refined editorial eye to everything I read and am excited to work with writers during the drafting process of their works in progress. I am particularly thrilled to work with your “problem” drafts and offer generative feedback that helps you deal with blockages or stuck-ness in your writing process.

Areas of Interest: I am particularly interested in working on

  • literary fiction that experiments with genre and convention,

  • historical fiction and non-fiction about obscure historical figures or phenomena that connect interestingly to contemporary issues,

  • poetry collections that are driven by research or process-driven inquiry,

  • “weird” sci-fi or fantasy that offers a political or social critique.

Feedback typically includes: in-line notes and margin comments, a thorough feedback letter with generative and conceptual feedback, reading recommendations tailored to your project, and one hour-long one-on-one conversation. We can, of course, tweak this as per the needs of your project!

Editorial and Consulting for Organizations

I am also open to editorial collaborations with individuals or organizations looking for developmental editing, copyediting, creative copywriting, and other such projects. I also have experience in impact-driven philanthropy, non-profit consulting, program evaluation, and grantmaking and have worked with large funders such as Kaiser Permanente, NW Health Foundation, and community-based nonprofits in the Portland/SW Washington area.
